February 2013, To Whom It May Concern: I have worked with Dax Garrett over the past four years where he has served as a Physical Education teacher in the early childhood and grade 3 programs at the American School of Bombay. While being at the school Dax has been involved in several initiatives, professional development opportunities and actively participates both within the department and the elementary school. He was part of the team that reviewed and implemented a new written curriculum for Physical Education school wide, which included a philosophy, the implementation of strands and outcomes. Dax effectively aligned the written, taught and assessed curriculum that encompassed knowledge, skills, concepts and the IB learner profile into his daily practice. Dax works to ensure that students see their learning in PE is connected to the broader context of their experiences in the homeroom. He regularly integrates his discipline into the Program of Inquiry and records his planning utilizing Atlas Rubicon. Dax is familiar with and uses inquiry practices in his classroom effectively. He is able to build varied and accurate assessments and helps children set effective goals for future learning. He frequently uses technology in instruction and assessment in an innovative and creative way. He presented at ASBs Unplugged conference in 2011 on the effective use of technology in Physical Education and during his masters program at Boston University investigated its use as an assessment tool. Dax has attended specific training to further enhance his understanding of Physical Education in the Primary Years Program and he is committed to, and has a thorough understanding of the program and seeks to enhance and highlight transdisciplinary skills. Dax has a positive disposition, and is able to work successfully with colleagues, students and their families from a variety of cultures.
