Air Traffic Control


An air traffic control is a person who controls the ground-based personnel and equipment concerned with controlling and monitoring air traffic within a particular area.

Requirements
Some requirements for air traffic controler are that candidates have at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Math. They must be age 18, under 31 to apply. You do not need any experience at it. They also have to reach some expectations in the classes as they do the course. They have to pass a pre-employment test.

What they have to do


For air traffic controller, you do different things. Such as manage aircrafts through their flight, ensuring arrival and departure on time, and get information to instructors and pilots. Most work in control towers in airports or in area control centre. They also approach controllers who take over from the area controllers as the aircraft is approaching the airport, give the okay for them to go, or land, and they make sure they land safely.

Work schedule
They need at least 2 hours to wake up before going to work. They are needed 24 hours a day but they take turns. They work 5 days per week, 8 hours a day, plenty of rest and mental breaks.

Salary
Air traffic controllers gets paid 55,000 a year. Between 3-5 years, that can increase up to 100,000. Many are getting paid 172,000 a year, plus over time.

Places to work
Most work in control towers in airports or in area control centre.

Interesting facts
Its a very stressful job, they only work half of their shift. approximately 50,000 aircraft operating in the skies each day. The control centre in Gander NL is the biggest one in North America.
