A movie on the Western Ghats was showed to the students of TYBBA of Rosary College of Commerce and Arts on the on the 18th of October 2013. The movie was shown as a part of the Environment Management subject. Western Ghats constitutes a mountain range along the western side of India. In the movie it was shown that this area is one of the worlds 10 hottest biodiversity hotspot which covers over 5000 species of flowering plants, 139 mammal species, and 179 amphibians species and many more which are still not identified by the research team. In the movie the research team has undergone many weathers like summer as well as rainy season. The movie also depicts a person sitting on the hill and the clouds make their way through him. It was very beautiful to see the person very close to the clouds which looked like gas being released near the man. It was also depicted that during the monsoon season numerous streams fed by incessant rain drain off the mountain sides leading to numerous and often spectacular waterfall. During the monsoon the unbroken Western Ghats chain acts as a barrier to the moisture laden clouds. In the movie it showed that Western Ghats is well covered in dense forests that provide wild food and natural habitat for the species. This area has the largest number of lion tailed macaque. This hill range serves as an important wildlife corridors allowing seasonal migration of endangered Asian elephants and which has the largest number of Asian elephants. They also showed many animals like the Asian elephants, gaur, bears, tiger, panda, wild boars, snakes, and different species of frog like the endangered purple frog. The movie was very interesting and very informative.
