Date: Considerations: This Visual Arts experienced is designed to engage a small group of children, no more than six and

no less than three. Inspiration: Andy Goldsworthy uses materials from the natural world to inspire and create Land Art. Show children photographs of Goldsworthys land art that you have collected. Discuss with children the shapes, materials and colours that they can identify. Discuss the fact the Goldsworthy only uses materials from outside to create his land art. (put the images of Andy Goldsworthys Land Art away immediately after showing the children. This is because we do not want children to simply re-produce or copy. Discussion -Introduce the concept of Land Art and discuss with children what they think Land Art is and where they may have seen it before -Discuss nature with children by asking what kinds of things that they see in their garden or in the outdoor environment at the centre (e.g. trees, flowers, sticks) and then ask and discuss how the children could position different natural materials to create Land Art

MODIFICATIONS - Instead of a group activity, children could individually construct their own Land art and then return to the group to share their ideas and accomplishments ASSESMENT:
In Visual Arts, assessment is about the childs process and never about the what the child produced. This activity is an excellent way to view how children interact and communicate with each other The show and tell activity allows educators to listen to childrens speech and how they express their ideas. With children sharing with their peers 3 different things about their land art, educators can record childrens responses and how they spoke, their body language and how the participated in discussion

This experience is an excellent way for educators to monitor a Childs speech development and comprehension as well as witness how they participate within a group environment.
