Slab Landscape or Creative Art Ceramic Tile This assignment allows you to use both drawing and painting

(glazing) skills. Step 1: Work up some sketches in your sketchbook. You may work for a photograph of a landscape or object or from an image in your head. Finalize your sketch. Step 2: Roll out a slab of 1/4 thickness. (Use the wooden sticks to assist in rolling out an even slab). Cut slab to shape and size. Smooth clay. Step 3: You may carve away your design or add clay to (by scoring and slipping), or use both techniques. Adding clay elements will make your work more dimensional. Step 4: If you choose to carve away your designs, you may wish to let your clay dry, slightly, overnight. Place the slab on a plate or tray and very loosely cover with plastic.
