Max!Ernsts!artworks!include!paintings,!drawings,!pencil!sketches,!frottage,!and!collages,!
among!many!others,!and!range!from!dada!to!surrealism!to!abstract!expressionism.!With!
such!a!wide!range!of!styles!and!colors,!it!would!be!difficult!to!limit!myself!to!just!a!few!
colors!!therefore,!I!chose!a!neutral!palette!for!my!timeline,!because!I!wanted!to!showcase!
and!emphasize!the!artists!work.!I!chose!to!do!a!sketchbook!collage!theme,!using!
deconstructed!parts!(the!columns!and!bottom!detailing)!of!Ernsts!surrealist!collage,!
Commonplace**Girls,*Death*and*Devil,!as!the!background.!To!give!it!even!more!of!a!
sketchbook!feel,!I!used!a!pen/brush!effect!on!the!lines,!and!feathered!the!edges!of!the!
paintings.!I!also!chose!a!handwritten!typeface,!because!it!fit!well!with!the!theme,!and!
reminded!me!of!the!way!he!would!label!some!of!his!drawings.!Max!Ernsts!own!
handwriting!is!not!easily!legible,!so!I!chose!a!font!that,!while!legible,!would!still!maintain!
the!feel!of!the!piece.!
