Focus/ goals: This activity allows children to re-enact and role play the everyday experience of going to restaurant for a meal. This experience will encourage the children to interact with others from outside their normal friendship groups. This activity will allow for development in the following skills; compromising, sharing, turn taking, understanding, leadership and social skills. Children will also have to use their imaginations when pretending to eat the noodles.

Materials: Shop, table, chairs, table setting Noodle box pretend food Pretend money Chef dress ups Cultural dress ups.

Implementation: Group discussion at mat time about the experience, staff will ask the children questions such as who has been to a restaurant for a meal before? What sort of restaurant? What was in there? Etc. Talking about foods from different cultures.

Reflect and Review

How could I adapt my plans and practice? I would change the activity so that there is more to do within it, like having all different materials in different containers, boxes and bottles so that the children could spend more time pretending to cook up a storm then just having a number of materials already mixed up together. Get the group more involved in the activity creating menus and giving their ideas. Future planning: (continue, modify or extend) Cooking activities such as pizza, noodles, soup, muffins, etc. could be tied in with the childrens pretend restaurant. So whatever the restaurant is set up as you make a food relating to it and continually change it every fortnight. Activities relating to healthy eating, food pyramid etc.
