Examples of Icebreakers for High School Students.

Icebreaker #1: Two truths and a Lie. Things required: 3 x 5 Index Cards for all students and pens or pencils. How to go about the icebreaker: You model initially the icebreaker. You write two things that are true about yourself and one thing that is not true (a lie) on a 3x5 card. You can pair students up to the person next to them and then share some of the information to all the class for selected or all students. The outcome: Creates a positive class atmosphere and eases student apprehension.

Icebreaker # 2: True / False Quiz. Things required: One sheet of paper per student and pencils or pens. How to go about the icebreaker: You model initially the icebreaker. You write ten things that are true or false about yourself on the sheet of paper and one. You tell the students to write 10 things that are either true / false about themselves. You can pair students up to the person next to them and have them share the answers between themselves. Then you can have the class share some of the true/false information to all the class for selected or all students. (Time permitting.) The outcome: Creates a positive class atmosphere and eases student apprehension.
