COLOSSEUM COLLEGES

Colosseum Chronicle
The Wikow creator I am the lightning thief, The creator of all universes. Your imagination, Your thoughts, Your everything and anything I am the creator, And the only creator is me. If the meaning of everything and anything Did not exist, then I would not be; Nothing would have been, Or ever will be. Because I am the creator, And the only creator is me. The meaning of life is no meaning at all If it wasnt all for me. If I was not the lightning thief Then nothing would ever be. No universe or world would exist, No windows between universes, Or patches of light writhing in the moonlight. For I am the creator, The lightning thief, The meaning, the maker, And the only creator is me. By Aitana Sola

Mr. Strathdene: the new head of our college

Mr Strathdene is the new head of Colosseum replacing Ms Collins the former head of Colosseum. He is an English teacher over a mix of years and was previously a Rhodes tutor. On the 21st of October we interviewed Mr Strathdene and this is the interview. We asked Mr Strathdene, what separated him from other college heads. He replied: I got the chance to see how Rhodes was setup and learn from the mistakes and hopefully well avoid them in Colosseum this year. How do you feel about the lanyard situation? Well I think it works really well if everybody pulls together then the system works. And not many Interviewers: Ben Knight, Joseph Glass and Alex Ormerod. people seem to be getting detentions. What do you plan do as College Head this year? I have of course setup the inter-form competitions - which C/VT are obviously the best at and I think its going extremely well and as a college we are getting to know each other more. So far the Colosseum newsletter seems to be going well and the sixth

formers and form who are doing it are working hard; I think it will be very successful.

Year 7 Poetry Workshop

On Monday the 7th of October, Year 7 attended a 2 hour workshop with Philip Wells (The Fire Poet), which was arranged by the library. First of all, the poet acted out some of his own poems to us. One was about St George and the Dragon, but from the dragons point of view. Then we had to make up some of our own poems. First we had to think of three words and then take one syllable out of each and put them together in any order to make up a new word. Mine was Wicko (made out of owl, epic and wise). Then, together, the whole class made up a poem using some of these words and then we made our own. (Page 2)

Year 7 Poetry Workshop (Contd.)

He taught us how to read out our own poems so that the audience would be intrigued and listen properly. Some of us had a go at The workshop doing this and some of us was run in Fortismeres amazing were the judges who used library expressive language to explain how they felt when the poem was read out. On the Thursday, the library held an evening event for parents where all the students read out their Aitana during the work- poems in the way theyd

been taught. There were drinks. Another author, Sita Brahmachari (Fortismere patron of reading) was there to sign little post-cards for us and tell us what she thought of our poems. When reading my own poem I felt a bit scared but when I got about half way through I felt a lot more confident because the audience were smiling and listening. Aitana Sola

Arctic Monkeys: New album review!

In September this year, the highly rated indie rock band, the Arctic Monkeys, released their 5th album since they started in 2005. Over the years the band have matured, and some critics have said after their first two albums, they had never reached the same height and popularity. However in my opinion this album (named AM) is up there with their best. On the album they have songs of all sorts: slow and crowd sing along songs like Mardy Bum, and fast songs which remind me of the whole of their first, best rated album Whatever people say I am thats what Im not. The song Whyd do you only call me when youre high? was the first song to reach the top 10 in the UK for the Arctic Monkeys since Fluorescent Adolescent in 2007. The new album debuted at no.1 in the UK album charts selling over 157,000 copies in its first week. This is the 5th consecutive number 1 album in the charts with a 100% record showing the Monkeys are superior in the music industry. The band is touring the album at the moment and is playing in the UK for the first time in over 2 years on Friday. Overall its a must-buy album which you will fall in love with instantly, with some classic tunes on it.

LANYARD LOLS What do you call a boy with no lanyard? C3! Why did the boy go into school with no lanyard? To get a C3! What do you get when you mix a boy with a no lanyard sticker? C3!

Lanyards
Lanyards have roughly been around for the last two years but only recently, at the start of the new school year last September, did lanyards begin to be an issue for many students because of the new rule that if you dont have your lanPage 2

yard on show or dont have it when you arrive to school teachers can give you an automatic C3 (detention). However many of the students say never took lanyards seriously in the

past. Mr Strathdene (Head of Colosseum College) said that the new lanyard situation was working and he was seeing more students than he expected adapt to the new lanyard rules. By Ben Knight

Walking Dead Review

The Walking Dead is an American horror drama series about life after a zombie pandemic. The show centres on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) a police officer who had been shot during a mission. He had then been in a coma and he wakes up to find himself in the zombie apocalypse, so he goes on a mission to find his family while picking up survivors on the way. What I like about The Walking Dead is that the story is easy to fol-

low also it is very entertaining. I really like the action scenes, and I also like the gory bits in the show. What I dont like about it is that theres nothing that I dont like about it. By Doryan Sadi.

We are entering a team this year in which we have high hopes for them and expect great things. Players have progressed from the school hockey team up to hockey clubs such as Southgate. A few upcoming fixtures will be Latymer and Kingsmead. If anyone is interested in starting hockey ask Mr Kay for more details!
