Reading inductance to choose the right low pass filter LC components !

Air core induction Coils are the best for high power systems wanting awsome reliable bass with less chance of your system going bad by using the right air coil Inductor for low pass crossovers. Items Needed Inductance/capacitance meter Internet crossover calculator . Instructions as follows , 1 ~ Design a crossover for the speaker components you are using, observing imped ance rating carefully. Use the frequency response graph to determine above what frequency the woofer's response is no longer smooth. Use the tweeter manufacture r's crossover frequency recommendations and design its rolloff at or above that frequency. Keep in mind that first-order crossovers do not roll off as steeply a s second-order crossovers and thus do not protect tweeters against over-excursio n as well. 2 ~ Measure the power transformer you plan to use in your crossover with an LC, or inductance-capacitance meter set to inductance. The inductance of the transf ormer has to equal the inductance you calculated for the inductor, sometimes cal led choke, in your crossover. If it does not match, you cannot use it in your sp eaker design. 3 ~ Build a first-order crossover with the inductor in-line with the positive le ad going to your woofer. Build your second-order crossover with inductors both f or the tweeter and for the woofer. Each inductor has a different value. For the tweeter, the inductor is connected across the positive and negative terminals to steepen the rolloff slope as opposed to using just a capacitor inline with the positive terminal. For the woofer, the inductor is inline with the positive term inal and the capacitor goes across negative and positive terminals to steepen th e slope.
