AIM: To Define Minimalist Architecture

OBJECTIVE: To Define the term Minimalist Architecture by studying different architects and their interpretations. Scope: talking about minimalism in terms of aesthetics

RESEARCH QUESTION(s):

How different architects interpret minimalism in different ways ? If minimalist architecture is always subject to interpretation and perception then how can one classify and identify it?

Minimalism is any design or style in which the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect. Application of minimalistic approach to a space is subjective; subjective to the space and subjective to the user. Minimalism is as much about perception as it is about design. Different architects interpret minimalism in different ways. Minimalist architecture: Architecture that says that the use of all ornamentation, decoration and color should be held at an absolute minimum. It considers all decorative features to be of negative aesthetic value; promoting Mies Van der Rohes concept of less is more.

CONTEXT
Understanding Minimalist architecture through the ideas and works of 5 different architects. The architects are known for their work in minimalism but why and how their work is called minimalist and what is their philosophy behind the design. Architects to study (tentative)

Material: Purity or singularity of material to express its real character. Geometry: Simplicity in shapes and purity of form, proportion.
