Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome -is a severe form of acute lung injury -this clinical syndrome is characterized by sudden

and progressive pulmonary edema, increasing bilateral infiltrates on chest x-ray, hypoxemia unresponsive to oxygen supplementation regardless of the amount of PEEP, and the absence of an elevated left atrial pressure. Etiologic factors CM Shortness of breath Labored and unusually rapid breathing Confusion and extreme tiredness Low blood pressure Low levels of oxygen Cough Fever Crackles upon auscultation Aspiration Drug ingestion and overdose Hematologic disorders Prolonged inhalation of high concentration of oxygen, smoke, or corrosive substances Localized infection Metabolic disorders Shock Trauma Major surgery Fat or air embolism Systemic sepsis

Nursing management Oxygen therapy Positioning Chest physiotherapy Intubation Mechanical ventilation Suctioning Respiratory monitoring(ABG, Pulse Oximetry) Reduce patients anxiety

Pharmacologic therapy Surfactant replacement therapy Antisepsis agents Pulmonary anti-hpn agents

Nutritional therapy 35-45 kcal/kg/day, enteral feeding
