Board of Trustees Responds To Inappropriate Tweets by Battle River School Trustee
IthascometotheattentionoftheBattleRiverSchoolDivisionBoardof TrusteesthatanewlyelectedmemberoftheBoardhaspreviously postedcommentsonsocialmediawhichwe,asaBoard,considertobe inappropriate. TheBRSDBoardwouldliketomakeclearthatthesestatementsareinnowayassociatedwith theschooldivision. Further,theBoardofTrusteesisawarethatelectedofficialsareheldtoahighstandardandis takingstepstoensurethateverymemberoftheBoardisactinginaccordancewiththose standards. DuringtheorientationmeetingsscheduledforthemonthofNovember,eachBoardmember willreviewtheBRSDBoardsCodeofEthics(Policy4),withaparticularemphasisondiscussing howtheentireBoardcanworktogethertoensureitsmembersupholdthisCodeatalltimes. TheBoardwillalsoparticipateinsocialmediaanddigitalcitizenshiptrainingintheverynear future.Furthertraininginembracingdiversitymayalsobeprovided. TheBoardofTrusteesofBattleRiverSchoolDivisionwouldliketoexpressitscommitmentto theschooldivisionsfoundationalbeliefs,whichincludetreatingeveryonewithdignityand respectandprovidingasafe,caring,inclusiveenvironmentinwhichtolearnandwork. Anotherfoundationalbeliefisthatcharactereducationisanessentialcomponentofchildrens development.MembersoftheBoardofTrusteeswillendeavortomodelthetraitsschools encouragechildrentolearn.
