occurred on their birthday dates based on the written timeline they will compose. Anticipatory Set: The students will listen to the song Happy Birthday by the Beatles (if speakers are available) Objective/Purpose Today we will research what historical events occurred on your birthday (not specifically the year). You may choose which events you want to put on your timeline. This judgment of important events will help you analyze in Social Studies. Input a. Task Analysis i. Play the song Happy Birthday by The Beatles ii. Question students on prior knowledge of historical events on their birthdays iii. State the Objective and Purpose iv. Demonstrate how to create the timeline v. State the directions for the assignment vi. Allow students to research and create the timeline vii. Walk around classroom answering questions and making sure students are staying on task b. Thinking Levels i. Knowledge: Know the various events that occurred on their birthday. ii Analysis: Recognize the important, landmark events. iii. Synthesis: Be able to create their own timelines through research. c. Learning Styles i. Intrapersonal: Students work on researching and creating a timeline on their own. d. Methods and Materials i. Ways of presenting: Demonstration and lecture ii. Materials needed: Elmo display, computers, paper, pen or pencil, song clip.

Modeling a. First step is to draw the timeline b. Next show students the layout (placement of the years and the information) c. Finally, put one event on the timeline Checking for Understanding a. Ask students where they should put the year on their timeline b. Ask students where they should put the information on each event on the timeline. c. Ask students what is a good website to find information Guided Practice a. Students will create a timeline based on internet research. b. The teacher will circulate in order to answer questions and help with problems that arise. Closure a. What are the events found through research? b. How did you decide which events to put on the timeline? c. Turn in timelines
