High School 1234 Main St Hometown, US 12345 Dear Parents and Students, Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year.

My name is Ms. Buchanan and I will be your son or daughters student teacher in social studies this school year. I am looking forward to a successful year of student learning. Here is a little background information about myself; I grew up in Naperville, Illinois. Naperville is about forty-five minutes West of Chicago. My high school has about 4000 students and is located in a suburban area. Throughout high school I was involved in two sports, tennis and soccer. I was a member of the National German Honors Society, Executive member of Student Council, band, and Model UN. My academic success led me to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. While attending the University of Illinois, I am involved in several preprofessional education clubs that have helped prepare me for a life as a teacher. I have also been on the Deans List every semester thus far. I have had several practicum placements in the surrounding towns including an urban and rural school setting. I am looking forward for the opportunity to work with your student this year. This will be the first time I am teaching US History and Government and am looking forward to the rewarding challenge of completing my student teaching experience at this wonderful high school. During my time here I plan on helping sponsor several clubs including student council and plan on attending athletic events regularly. Please feel free to come up and talk with me at any of these functions. Although I am a very busy college student and student teacher one of my favorite things to do is travel. I studied abroad this past summer in Norwich, England and had the opportunity to travel to several other European countries during my trip. In spare time I love to catch up on some of my favorite television shows which include: Breaking Bad, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, and Glee. Please read the course syllabus, classroom procedures, and expectations I have provided to understand my philosophies of teaching and education. I hope to have a successful year in the classroom.
