The Excursion to CERES

On Wednesday the 6th of November the grade fives from St Francis of Assisi went on an excursion to CERES an environmental park and learnt about sustainability. Bush Tucker- 5M went on a walk around the complex and saw some native plants and they were eatable. Pig face this was the first plant we learnt about. Pig face is used as a hydration sauce. To get water out of it you must take a big leaf off the plant and glide you finger along it to squeeze out some water not a lot comes out of the plant though. Pig face is found near salt water coasts. New Zealand spinach - it is a leaf that you can eat raw or cooked it doesnt taste like normal spinach it is very bitter And it has an interesting texture. The Aboriginal people call it Warrigal cabbage. Lily Pilly Lilly Pilly is a small berry like fruit that grows on trees. It tastes like an apple and comes in three colours: pink purple and white. Lilly Pilly are a tasty treat a `nd are very pretty.
