The Top 7 teacher behaviours we want to see happening in each of our classrooms to enhance the learning culture and student learning 1. Establish and follow a Start of lesson and End of lesson routine
Secondaries: Start of class - Students line up outside the door, Greet students as they enter quietly, Students stand behind seats for class greeting, Students sit quietly and open books, get pens ready End of class room is tidy, rubbish off floors, chairs under tables, whiteboard cleaned - Primaries: Set up routine as suits your class and year level

2. Provide a clear Learning Intention at the start of the lesson or activity


plan and write up the learning intention or outcome on the board or display in a prominent position

3. Limited teacher talk


students to begin working or varying the activity after 3 mins (Primary) & 6 mins (Secondary) of teacher lecture

4. Feedback, Feedback, Feedback


Provide verbal feedback, written feedback, or design tasks that enable students to receive feedback that will move their learning forward eg. Comment only assessment, Rubrics, self marking charts

5. Check students understanding throughout the lesson, especially before moving on


use a variety of means for this including; No hands up, icy pole sticks, traffic lights, thumbs up / down

6. Use a variety of questions


use a variety of questions in class including Higher Order questions (Analytical, Evaluative, Synthesising) , Exploratory questions (Why do you say that?). Plan key questions prior to lesson.

7. Develop strong, positive relationships


look for opportunities to foster rapport with students and between students both in and out of the classroom
