Queueing

• What is queueing ?

Queuing theory is based on

mathematical theories and deals with
the problems arising due to flow of
customers towards the service facility.

queuing or waiting line models -

decisions have to be taken to minimize
the waiting time with minimum
investment cost.
CUSTOMER:
• people or things – EXPLOSIVES!!!
• In a day – 8 explosions – N=8

SERVICE:
• Drilling – to fill explosives in hole – takes
approx 10 minutes
• Packing - Controlled explosion
requirement- chemicals to be in fixed
ratio – takes approx 20 minutes
• Blasting – wiring done – electric method of
blasting
- takes approx 40 minutes
• Arrival of explosives – 1 hour 20
minutes
• Therefore we have λ= 60/90 = 0.67
explosives/hour
• Service rate is – 70 minutes
• Therefore we have µ=60/70=0.67
explosives/hour
Cindy Crawfard model……

• model 2 (M/M/1) (FIFO/N/∞) i.e.

Poisson –exponential single server –
