Anxiety is painful or apprehensive uneasiness of mind usually over an impending or anticipated ill. (MerriamWebster).

It is caused by a a lot of different things and it usually involves a change in a persons normal way of living. Change is often perceived by individuals as a necessary and a normal part of life if this perceived change is for the better. On the other hand though, if this change carries with it a drastic shift of normality within the perceivable mind and functioning of the person, this creates anxiety and impairs psychological and even physical functioning. It is important for the nurse to identify the signs of anxiety in order to effectively render care and prevent further complications like panic attacks. It does not require an actual diagnosis of an Anxiety Disorder for a person to actually experience the phenomenon. Be vigilant enough and compassionate enough to resolve these feelings.
