Role of women in 21st century

Throughout the course of history women are usually seen as someone inferior to the likes of men and were relegated to the background. When they grow up, they are expected to bear children, raise them and manage the household. Though this view is quickly changing, the basic ideology still survives in some countries. The fact that women could one day hold the same positions as men was something not even dreamed of a century or so earlier. What differentiates the 21st century from the previous ones is that today we strive for gender equality. Gone are the days when the only role of women is to become a house-wife, as more and more women join men in the work field. Today women have more privileges than ever: they can go to school to get a proper education, they can vote and exercise their suffrage, they are free to give out their opinions and suggestions without the authority of men questioning them, they can be found working alongside men in almost all work sectors where men are previously dominant. During the past few decades there have been profound changes in womens lives. Thanks to modern societys changing ideology and increasing awareness, women have redefined their roles and become more than just subservient housewives. Today it is hard to define what the role of women really is. Not because they have no roles at all, but because todays women fills so many roles in the society. First and foremost she could be a daughter, a sister, a wife and a mother. Outside family life, she could be a teacher, a financial keeper, a doctor, a government officer, an architect, an engineer, a public speaker, a business woman and the list goes on. The fact that numerous women have won prestigious awards such as the Noble Prize is a testament to the improved role of women in 21st century. Familiar names such as Margaret Thatcher and Marie Curie are clear proof that women

can compete at the same level as men and need not be shunned because of their gender. In 21st century, the possibilities for women are endless and they have more freedom to do things. With women holding such diverse positions in todays society, they become a driving force for further escalating the welfare of women both locally and globally in the generations to come. Before I finish I would like to quote American Leader Brigham Young: You educate a man; you educate a man. You educate a woman; you educate a generation.
