Read through page 3 with students as whole class (popcorn/volunteer readers) Warm-up Activity: Journal entry: Write an introspective on which of the three types of thinkers you most often represent, and why you believe this is true. page Partners (or small groups): Read pages 4, 5, and 6 of Guide to Critical Thinking. Discuss ideas for reasons these differences exist, creating list for class discussion minimum 6 items (2 per type) Discussion: What factors can lead to the differences in how people think? Goal: understand that thinking critically is not innate; it comes with development, experience, and learning. Classwork/Homework (Assessment): Matching/Fill-in worksheet, identifying types of thinkers. Ticket out the door: Provide one factor that would prevent you from becoming a fair-minded critical thinker.
