Testing Joint Proprioception Proprioception plays an important role in the control of balance,3 occupational tasks, activities of daily living, and in sports.31 Because the ankle joint is located in close proximity to the body's BoS, the ankle plays an integral role in maintaining balance.32 Ankle proprioception is critical for balance during functional activities such as standing, walking, and running.33, 34
