Harker DECA Sponsored Ice Cream Social

San Francisco, California - On November 1st, 2013, Harker DECA hosted an ice cream social in front of Manzanita for the whole school, free of charge. This was an opportunity for our community to get together, socialize, and let loose after a long week of learning and stress. Harker DECA was also able to kick off National DECA Month with a bang. The Harker School DECA chapter officers in attendance included: Monica Thukral, President Ariana Shulman, Vice-President Gaurav Kumar, Co-Director of PR Shannon Hong, Co-Director of PR Michael Zhao, Treasurer Adarsh Battu, Director of Events Krish Sanghi, Documentarian Sophia Luo, Secretary/Treasurer SV DECA Savi Joshi, Membership Intern Victoria Ding, Treasurer Intern Annie Zhou, Written Events Intern Mr. Glass, Advisor To commence the first ever DECA Month at the Harker School, the officers of the Harker DECA Chapter organized the ice cream social at a Skype meeting over the weeks before. The social was designed to allow both existing and prospective members to learn more about DECA and to talk amongst each other. The Officers served the long line of students in an assembly line fashion. Two officers scooped, two manned the sprinkles, two spread the whipped cream, and two more handed out DECA gear such as flyers and pins. Following the social, students affiliated with DECA headed over to Manzanita to participate in a study session regarding role-play events. DECA chapter officers had an opportunity to impress upon the students about the proper way to answer roleplays and carry oneself in round. The Harker DECA Chapter hosts study sessions every Friday from 3-5PM in Manzanita. Its really beneficial to all students who participate in competing events to attend study sessions because students can gain perspective and insight from experienced competitors.

After thirty minutes, we were able to serve over two hundred students and we created an environment where students could socialize and have fun over yummy vanilla ice cream. It was a great way to let students have fun while getting to know DECA. Shannon Hong, sophomore Co-Director of PR DECA, FPS, JSA. It was great to be able to have ice cream in the hot weather. Its great that DECA is making an impact in our community. Sanjana Kaundinya, junior, varsity swimmer. The primary purpose of the social was to create an environment where people can eat and have fun. I had a great time serving our community it actually required significant effort to the scoop ice cream. Michael Zhao, sophomore president, treasurer DECA.
