Turlough OBriens script for Fiddler on the Roof is very similar to the original play, keeping most of the key story elements although it features some key differences. The main difference between the two is the setting. The original is set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. However Turlough OBriens version is set in Poland during the age of Nazi Germany. It shows the difficulties the Jewish community had to endure during these times such as re-locating to ghettos and concentration camps. The Nazis play the part of the main antagonists instead of the Russians. The final critical difference is instead of being sent to work camps in Siberia some characters are sent to Auswitch, the concentration camp.
