Advantages of Drawing by Computer Graphics 1.

High speed, uniformity of line work and colors, exactness of dimensions and orientation of lines and objects. 2. Corrections, alterations and additions can be made easily as frequently as desired. Several modified versions of a drawing can be easily made and stored. 3. Colors of lines and other objects and line style or line thickness can be easily changed. Hatching and shading can be easily carried out. Some lines or part of the drawing can be switched off i.e. not displayed. 4. A good software has features like copy, move, rotate, scale, zoom, pan etc. which facilitate s making multiple copies of complicated details in different size and orientation. 5. A new drawing can be easily made from a similar earlier drawing stored on the computer. Details can be easily copied from previous drawings. 6. Many software packages are programmable. Hence similar drawing with different dimensions can be made by giving simple input data to the program. 7. A drawing can be easily printed to any scale or size. Also a drawing can be easily compared from other drawing. 8. Objects can be drawn on a computer in 3D and viewed in 3D or various projections and sections can be printed in 2D. Drawing can be animated easily. 9. Several different persons sitting in far away places (i.e. different countries) can contribute to the marks of one drawing easily, and discuss and review also. Drawing can be instantly transmitted to far off places. 10. Rendering for various realizations is easy.

Disadvantages 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. It is a costly exercise as it needs good quality computer and plotter or printer. It needs expertise of computers as well. Free hand work is difficult to incorporate. Subject has not yet reached perfection stage like engineering graphics. Uniformity of line work is actually not feasible, even if better than manual practice. It is often a challenging exercise even for trivial tasks. It does not provide feeling to draftsman. Radiations from emissive displays harm eyes. It is straining to eyes to look into small desktop displays even in non emissive devices. 9. Storage is costly and often not safe due to various reasons. 10. It is not an environment friendly activity as it produces electronic waste.
