It is also a key location and a transportation hub, it has on of the biggest transport interchanges in the country with many different modes like cars, ta1is, buses and trains, local, national and international coming together in the same place. It is estimated that well o)er a thousand number of people pass through the city. 2ne uni3ue challenge that the regions has is it super imposed sewer system 4 meaning the sewer system that has been build under a storm water canal, this becomes e)en more challenging when a maintenance work has to be carried out due to the density of the surface. The Innercity is not 5ust the historical centre of Johannesburg, but is also its symbolic, economic and cultural centre 4 it is of strategic importance to the city. And boosting the economic and social de)elopment of the inner city is key to cementing Johannesburg s position in the country and on the continent.
