Genre Analysis Elizabeth lived in Hendersonville before she moved to Charlotte for college.

While she was there, she worked at the local theatre known as "E ic". E ic theatres was a h!ge art of her high school career beca!se she wo!ld work there every weekend, every holiday, for many ho!rs. Her life consisted of work and school at that oint in time. Hendersonville is a small town with not m!ch to do, so E ic was the go"to lace on a boring #h!rsday night. #he only com etition was the $egal in %iltmore &ark. E ic theatres com eted with $egal by lowering their movie ticket rices and giving the c!stomers an incentive to choose E ic over $egal, like a good deal. #he most im ortant thing to c!stomers are these two '!estions( "Will this movie fit into my sched!le)" and "*s there a way to save money while at the movies)" +ike all movie theatres, E ic advertises their movies and show times. #he c!stomer can either call or look ! the show times and decide if they want to see the movie and if it will fit into their sched!le. #o invite eo le to an o ort!nity to save money, E ic advertises a

"rewards card". #he rewards card will save a c!stomer money if they go the movies on a reg!lar basis. #hey can !se the card every time they go to the movies and event!ally something free will show ! on their card. &eo le hear the word "free", which is an incentive to a ly for a rewards card. #he rewards card is one of E ic,s ways of ers!ading eo le to go to the movies more often. *f someone were to have this card, they wo!ld only get oints every time they go watch a movie. #hey m!st have their card at the bo- office to receive any credit on it. .nce they go to the movies a certain amo!nt of times, they will become eligible for

something free, de ending on how many oints they have on their card. E ic makes a rofit from these so called "free" cards beca!se the atrons are des erate for anything that will save them money at the movies. #o sign ! for a rewards card, a c!stomer m!st first go to the concession stand and fill o!t an a lication. #he c!stomer will receive their card when they fill o!t the a lication, however they may not !se their card !ntil the ne-t visit. When they visit, they m!st rovide the bo- office em loyee their rewards card before they can receive any credit for going to the movies. C!stomers may not !se the card at the concession stand. When the bo- office em loyee swi es their card, they get either si- oints for b!ying one ticket, or a ma-im!m of twelve oints for b!ying two or more. Every forty oints, the c!stomer will be d!e to redeem an item for free. #he first forty oints they will receive a free large drink, the ne-t forty oints will be a free large o corn, and the ne-t forty oints will be a free movie ticket. #he cycle re eats itself from there. C!stomers are allowed to kee the item on the card and redeem it another time. Advertisements for the rewards cards are as followed( on the re"shows before the reviews for their movie. /or atrons who arrive early, an E ic rewards card commercial will be layed before the reviews of the movie they are attending. #hey !rs!e the c!stomers to get a rewards card beca!se c!stomers know how ridic!lo!s the concession stand is, and the commercial informs them that they co!ld receive items from the stand for free. #here are also banners in the lobby for the rewards card. *n o!r "0ovie /acts" broch!re, there is an ad for the rewards card and the oint system. E ic !ses the rewards card to l!re eo le into s ending more time and money at

the movies. #hey !t on a front, making eo le believe that the rewards card is a way to save money at the movie theatres. #he way any movie theatre makes their money is not thro!gh movie tickets, b!t thro!gh the concession stand, which is why the concession stand item rices are so high. #hey rovide c!stomers a way to receive free items at the concession stand if they !se their rewards card. However, even tho!gh they will be receiving a free o corn or drink, they had to ay money to do that in the first lace. #he c!stomer will go to E ic and s end money on tickets and o corn for five or si- visits before they will receive a free item. #herefore, they are act!ally not saving money, b!t s ending it to think that they are saving money. When c!stomers go to the movies, they want to know what they are going to be watching, and what time it starts. E ic rovides this information on their website, over the hone, in the 10ovie /acts2 broch!re, or on the mar'!ee in the bo- office. C!stomers will want to know abo!t the movie they are watching, so E ic rovides a descri tion on their website and the broch!res, or the c!stomer may ask an em loyee abo!t the movie. #he c!stomer will also want to know if a movie will fit into their sched!le, which is why E ic rovides several different show times for each of their movies. /or newer or more o !lar movies, there will be more show times beca!se more eo le will come to watch the new movies. 3ometimes they will sched!le movies within thirty min!tes of each other in several different a!ditori!ms if they know that artic!lar movie has a high chance of selling o!t. #hey want the c!stomer to feel welcome and able to watch the movie, even if their show time sold o!t. #hey want the c!stomer to still s end money at the theatre so they let the c!stomer know that they can still go to a later show time which is only thirty min!tes or so from the original show time. #hey will also

sched!le more movies in the evening time than the matinee beca!se most eo le will be o!t of work or school by that time. #his way, they can attract more c!stomers to their theatre. E ic,s form of ethos is the fact that they are a movie theatre so when sched!ling the movies, eo le are s!re to know that they are well informed beca!se a movie theatre isn,t going to screw ! show times. #hey !se the rewards card as a form of athos beca!se they e- ress concern abo!t the c!stomer,s e- erience at the movie theatre. #hey show that they want the c!stomer to have the best ossible time and try to give them a deal with the rewards card. #he form of logos is the cycle of the rewards card. #he rewards card goes thro!gh a forty" oint system that re eats itself over and over again no matter how many times a c!stomer !ses the card and goes to the movies. #he oint system is easy to !nderstand and gives the c!stomer and idea of how long it will take to get a free item. E ic4s main !r ose for these two genres is to rovide an incentive for atrons to s end money at their theatre. /or the movie sched!le, they rovide most show times in the evening so more eo le will attend that movie beca!se the show times are more likely to fit into their sched!le. /or the rewards card, it invites eo le to believe that they will be saving money to get the card, however they m!st go to the movies at f!ll rice several times before they can receive something that is free. #hese are both s!btle ways of ers!ading eo le to s end money at E ic. E ic !ses the rewards card and the sched!le to comfort the c!stomer, and then silently l!re them into the tra of s ending more money and time.
