PRACTICE INSTRUCTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS: Ideally, students should practice 20 minutes every day. It is best to practice for shorter periods, but more often. Less than 15 minutes is usually not long enough to make any real progress. If you go over more than 30 minutes at a time, critical muscles may tire, the brain becomes distracted, and bad habits can occur. It is suggested that you make a schedule for yourself that you practice for the same time every day, say 20 minutes after dinner, or for a 15 minute break from your other homework. This way you have time every day set aside and you will be less likely to get behind. Practice scales, arpeggios, your orchestra music, some other music, either in a method book, or popular music, and then do some sight reading. Include listening to professional orchestra and string musicians in your practice regimen too.
