Art History Portrait Research There is a long history of self-portraiture in art.

Almost every noteworthy artist has created a self-portrait. These portraits are as varied as the work of the artists. A selfportrait tends to be personally revealing. This happens because of the way the portrait has been drawn or painted, what scene has been staged, or simply the posture of the artist. You will consider a self-portrait by one of the artists listed below. YOU MUST CHOOSE A TWO DIMENSIONAL PIECE-NO SCULPTURE. Find three portraits that appeal to you in their approach--is it a full body portrait? Can you see the background? Are there other people present in the portrait? What is the lighting like? Keep in mind you will be making a self-portrait in the same way as one of the three you have chosen. Save these images to your desktop and show Mrs. Paulsen. -After you have selected your artist, you will need to take a photo, bring in a photo, or draw from direction observation (using a mirror) of yourself. Choose from the artists listed below. Robert Arneson Jack Beal Giorgio de Chirico Albrect Durer Diane Edison Caspar David Friedrich Eric Gill Alberto Giacommetti Van Gogh Francisco Goya Ellen Day Hale David Hockney Frieda Kahlo Angelika Kauffmann Paula Modersohn-Becker
