Cynthia Crowley Abbott Loop Elementary School 4th grade teacher During the fall of 2013, Dustin Ryan

interned in my classroom. During his internship he was dedicated to the children and concerned about their educational needs. As part of the welcome back week at the school we have a barbeque and include a back to school night after the PTA meeting. This gives the parents, students, and teachers the opportunity to get to know one another in a less formal atmosphere. Dustin interacted with both parent and student during the dinner event and then was able to communicate the expectation of the 4th grade in the classroom. He was extremely professional and communicated with the parents as a seasoned educator. Parent/Teacher conferences occurred in October and Dustin took part in three days of meeting with parents. Throughout the conferences both academic and behaviors were discussed. Dustin shared his concerns about academic performance and behaviors that would benefit from parental knowledge. He was caring and concerned about each students successes and challenges. Throughout the year parents drop in to discuss concerns they have with their student. Dustin has been a valuable addition to these impromptu meetings. We have a challenging situation this year and he has eased parental concerns while assisting the student in positive growth. Dustin values the relationship with parents and the impact they have on the growth of the students. He clearly appreciates the value of communication with parents and doesnt hesitate to utilize it when necessary.
