Digital Citizenship
The student's use of a voice output device allows her to engage in the reading of a text, a process she is unable to carry out without assistive technology. However, this student frequently uses these devices, so not much improvement was seen as a result of one lesson. This student is nonverbal, so the use of an assistive technology device to read repetitive text is a valuable aid to communication. This student was not engaged in research during this lesson.
The use of a voice output device allows the student to have an effect on her environment, which, in the long term, will encourage her to continue to use assistive technology to communicate. Since this student's use of technology was limited to personal communication, there is little room for legality or ethicalness of behavior to come into consideration.
