3 Union, New Jersey, and Im Stephanie Louis. Multiple gunshots were fired at the Garden State Plaza Mall, in Paramus this past Monday. According to witness and media reports, the shots erupted shortly after the mall closed for the night at around 9:30pm. Local resident and mother of three Emma Ernest shares her reactions. (SOUNDBITE) The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Richard Shoop, of Teaneck, New Jersey, was said to have fired his weapon into the air six times. The mall was on lockdown for many hours thereafter. Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli, confirmed that the gun was taken from the Shoop family home earlier this year after Shoop and his older brother Kevin were involved in an altercation over the weapon on New Years Day. Another local resident, Jonathan Louis, who is a young man around Shoops age comments. (SOUNDBITE) Shoop was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Tuesday morning after a massive search of the mall, according to authorities. prosecutors said they do not believe Shoop intended to harm anyone but himself and one else was harmed, in the shooting.
