PSGE Priority Projects: Digital Infrastructure

National Backbone Libreville-Franceville-Lekoko Department Project cost Financing Planning

Context and objectives The Gabonese Government decided to bridge the digital gap, and to put ICT at the service of economic development through their use in the areas of health, education, trade and government effectiveness. Gabons participation in the submarine cable fiber optic ACE project, which will connect the African West Coast to Europe, offers to the country new opportunities as a connectivity HUB in the sub region. With the SAT-3 cable, Gabon thus acquires two data feeds supply routes, a guarantee of performance and security of international transactions. The ambition of Gabon in digital economy is to become, by 2016, a country with a digital infrastructure throughout its entire territory, allowing the development of a wide range of e-services promoting a major qualitative leap in economic and social services and the breakthrough of Emerging Gabon pillars.
