Context and objectives

Gabon fishing ambition is to reconcile by 2025 the need for economic recovery with ecological requirements; sustainable development being at the heart of the State strategy. Gabon will also implement the infrastructure required for the development of the sector, including an economic zone of products of artisanal fisheries in Libreville, an economic zone of trawling products valorization in Port Gentil (Mandji Island) and two hubs of aquaculture development in Lambarn. The Learning Fishing Center in Libreville (CAPAL) will be erected in a processing center for artisanal products, for the supply of the national market. The assigned objective in this economic zone will contribute to sustainable food security in Gabon and in the region, by a variety of artisanal products (fresh, frozen and processed), in order to meet a low cost local demand and a lucrative regional market (Central Africa is a major area of consumption of pelagic frozen fish, smoked, salted and dried).

Description
The investments relate to: i) Construction of the dike intended to protect the artisanal fishing fleet against the swell; ii) Increase of the docks and the construction of new docks, which can accommodate small trawlers dedicated to the pelagic fishery and in need of a draught of more than 3 m; iii) Increase in capacity of the canoes; iv) Increase of storage capacities under cold temperature (cold rooms capacity extension). The surface of the area assigned to the CAPAL to accommodate processing spaces supported by a complete framing device products.
