Thursday with very mixed results. After two years of filming and a five million Reichsmarks budget it finally reached the silver screen. Starring, Alfred Abel, Brigitte Helm, Gustav Frhlich, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, it displays a huge variety of scene and effects that hardly seem possible. With music by Gottfried Huppertz the film isnt a talkie but a keen look into Fritz Langs World of Metropolis. With the latest special effect the movies epic cityscapes and towering structures appear as real as you or I. Despite the movie outstanding effects the plot left me with somewhat of a bad taste in my mouth. Its Nave storyline gave me the Heebie-Jeebies at

points and left me confused at others. The multitude of characters made the story hard to follow at times but also gave it some well needed depth. Many of the movies characteristics showed its German production and origin. Though foreign the film appeals to most adult Americans. The film intrigues your imagination and questions what is socially acceptable. TV / RADIO
With the release of more and more silent films every day it seems that entertainment is moving too fast to keep up with. With nearly half of Americas home with a radio it is still the most popular way to hear news and be entertained. With the new talkies the radios may become a thing of the past. These new films appear clear as day with sound as well! Despite their amazing qualities the talkies are only at theaters and cost money as well while radio broadcasts remain free. Each of these media hubs has their own faults and advantages but which one will be the one to last. Even

with the rise of talkies radio still dominates the population as the source of entertainment. But the new talkies are on the rise in quantity and quality and they dont seem to be stopping. With the new Talkies comes the issue of censorship. With the new form of media the idea that all shows are not for anyone to see. Some the displays of pictures may seem too inappropriate for children as opposed to the family friendly radios. Even with the issue of censorship movies seem to be the way of the future, but only time will tell

Science and Technology The newest inventions that are coming out will include the traffic light, penicil- Today
lin, and the yo-yo.
The traffic light was first put on a street in London in 1868 when the traffic was still buggies and people. This traffic light was an oil lamp which later exploded and injured the men operating it. Earlier this decade Garett Morgan from Cleveland, Ohio noticed that there needed to be something to control traffic besides policemen and he decided to create a new traffic light. Garrett Morgan created the first electric traffic light. Another man named William Potts from Detroit, Michigan also had the same idea of a traffic light. Being a police officer he knows how the traffic gets when only the police are directing it. William potts created his first traffic light and put it at a street corner in Detroit to test it. Garrett Morgan got his version of the traffic light bought and they are now putting them in big cities at every corner. Alexander Flemming is a young bacteriologist and made a mistake on one of his experiments. The story goes that he left one of his samples uncovered over the night and when he came in the next morning he noticed that there was mold growing on the sample and the mold was killing the bacteria. He noticed that the mold that was growing was penicillin which is the same type that grown on old bread. Later in this year Flemming plans to release his new medicine to the world.
