Unit test 2013 Max. marks: 30 N. B. Design and drawing of steel structure Time: 1 Hr.

Q 1 a) b) c) Q 2 Q 3 Q 4

1. Question No. 1 is compulsory. 2. Solve any two questions out of remaining three questions. 3. Use of IS 800 and steel table is allowed. 4. Assume suitable data if required. Write the step by step procedure as per IS 875: part-III, to carry out wind load analysis for a roof truss. Explain advantages and disadvantages of steel as a construction material. What are different limit states considered for strength and serviceability? Design a tie member of a roof truss to carry a factored load of 170 kN. Also design the member end connection with gusset plate using M20 size, 4.6 grade black bolts. Find the design compressive strength of member in Q 2 if the length of member between c/c of intersection is 2.15 m. consider end condition as hinged supports. Design a tension member made up of two angles back to back to carry an axial load at 100 kN. Effective length of member 3m., Also design welded connection.
