CONDITIONS FOR THE USE OF GIACOMETTI IMAGES BY THE PRESS

Heir of the artists widow, the Fondation Alberto et Annette Giacometti is the majority
holder of the rights on Alberto Giacomettis work and personal image.
As a principle, prior and formal permission of the Fondation is mandatory.
Some national laws allow the use of images by the press for the purpose of information in
direct and immediate relation to the event. Only works involved in the event can be
reproduced in a proportionate way.
Even then, some conditions need to be respected:
1. Along with each image, the name of the author, the title, date and technique of the
work must be mentioned
2. Each use of a work has to be assorted with mandatory credit lines which can be
requested from the person in charge of the rights (rights@fondation-giacometti.fr)
and must appear either next to the reproduction.
In general, the credit line shall be: Succession Giacometti (Fondation Giacometti,
Paris et ADAGP, Paris) 2013.
In Brazilian newspapers, it shall be: Succession Giacometti Estate / AUTVIS, 2013
3. Isolated troncated portions of works are not allowed. Works have to be reproduced as
a whole, including the pedestal which are part of the work. Reproducing a detail is
possible, provided that it be clearly specified in the caption that it is a detail and that
the work be reproduced as a whole in another part of the publication.
4. No overprint is permitted on a works image.
5. Use of a works image in connection to weight-reduction, anorexia and mental trouble
is in principle not allowed.
6. High resolution images can only be used for paper edition or reproduction in a video.
7. Only low resolution (72 dpi maximum) and smal size (600 x 600 p. max.) can be used
on the Internet.
In accordance with appliable national laws and international agreements, any
unauthorized reproduction or any reproduction that exceeds the limit of the
contractual or legal permission is an infringement of the authors rights and, as such,
exposes its author to law suits.
