Introduction Delgado Community College is located in the center of New Orleans sided by the beautiful City Park. Founded in 1921, Delgado is Greater New Orleans largest higher education school and Louisianas oldest and largest community college. Fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Delgado presents students with the greatest extensive array of education and training services achievable in the Greater New Orleans region. Delgado has clear understanding with most of the states four-year colleges and universities that allow students desiring to seek higher degrees to effortlessly transfer credits into baccalaureate programs. DCC has had its share of financial issues but they seem to maintain a high number in enrollment and currently add different programs each year. They not only offer extensive Associates programs, but the certification programs are high in number as well that has caught the attention of students throughout the city of New Orleans. Campus Layout There are several campuses but the largest campus which is the City Park Campus which is located in the heart of the city located on City Park Avenue and serves the metropolitan area of the city of New Orleans. This campus is the original location of Delgado Community College and remains the largest campus with more than 60 academic programs. Prior to Hurricane Katrina (August 29, 2005) the City Park Campus served approximately 10,000 students. Flooding and wind from the hurricane damaged approximately 70% of the facilities on the campus. Insufficient facilities, displaced faculty, staff and students, as well as the devastation endured throughout the greater New Orleans community forced the college to suspend the fall 2005 semester at this and all other locations.

Clear signage directs visitors and students from nearby interstates and streets, to parking areas, and to entrances of the varied buildings on the 57-acre campus. The Moss Memorial Library Building, which pre-Katrina held more than 123,000 volumes and over 898 periodicals as well as a special collection of books on Louisiana history, was one of the most heavily damaged by flooding from Hurricane Katrina. The library is now under construction and is going to be even bigger and better with more technology in order to provide more access to the students. The main campus building houses administration, dining areas, many classrooms, and more. The Isaac Delgado Hall houses the humanities and social sciences classrooms, auditorium, biology and chemistry labs, and more. The new Francis E. Cook Building will house nursing and healthcare classrooms and laboratories, as well as additional science-related classrooms. The campus is located next to a beautiful public park, with beautiful views of the Louisianas famous Magnolia oak trees and nearby New Orleans Art Museum. Its location provides ample parking lots from nearly any position on campus. Inside the main entrance, clear signage and friendly staff greet visitors. Artwork, photographs, labeled bulletin boards and tier of pamphlet holders impart inspiration and information. Eateries (with vegetarian and health-conscious choices), the bookstore, the welcome center, and administrative offices yield to wings of classrooms that are convenient to students and visitors.

Admissions/Registration Process The admissions and registration process is fairly easy due to the convenience of online registration. There is a tutorial video on the colleges website that gives step by step instructions on how to register, the information that is needed and any other process that goes along with registering. Most first time students will receive a professional folder of information, along with brochures, financial aid, website and admission information. Even though the instructions are online in regards to the registration process a laminated instruction guide to help with the enrollment process. The welcome packet folder includes enrollment checklist which will include email, office phone numbers, contact information for academic advisors, placement assessments, bursars office, transcripts, and more. There are also free workshops with academic advisors that are faceto-face who can provide detailed information on the easy and convenient enrollment process. Demographics Student enrollment for the 2012 2013 academic years was 18,767, with over 15,000 degree, seeking students. (Cappex, 2012) Women outnumber men approximately 59% to 33%. Over 40% of the students are Black/non-Hispanic; with 36% is White/non-Hispanic. In recent years, the student population is shifting to a stronger proportion of ore student coming directly out of high school, primarily due to the increase of wanting to be better prepared before attending a four-year college or university. There seems to be more students that want to attend DCC straight out of coming out of high school in order to get them better prepared for a university. There are also students who want to educate at a two-year college because they may offer the program that they desire.

There is a first year student learning community organization that offer students the opportunity to build team skills, make friends, develop relationships with faculty and advisors, target needed intervention early, and increase retention success. The transferability is an easy process, but there are some universities that wont accept transfer credits from DCC. Conclusion With future aspiration for employment with DCC, I can say Im pleased with the positivity perceived during my enrollment there and my recent visit. The student involvement and the community demonstrates that education is the source of growth, presence and future employment opportunities for students. Delgado is one of the most powerful forces driving Louisianas economy, as a learning institution and an employer. As the economy shifts, it becomes
