Roland Grard Barthes- was born in France, the 12 November 1915 26 March 1980. was a French literary theorist, philosopher, linguist, and critic. Barthes' ideas explored a diverse range of fields and he influenced the development of schools of theory including structuralism, semiotics, social theory, anthropology and post-structuralism.

Levi Strauss born, German, February 26, 1829 September 26, 1902. Was an American businessman, and theorist of German Jewish descent who founded the first company to manufacture blue jeans. His firm, Levi Strauss & Co, began in 1853 in San Francisco, California.

Tzvetan Todorov Bulgarian, born March 1, 1939 is a Franco-Bulgarian philosopher. He has lived in France since 1963 and now lives there with his wife Nancy Huston and their two children, writing books and essays about literary theory, thought history and culture theory.

Vladimir Yakovlevich Propp born in Russia, 17 April 1895 22 August 1970 was a Soviet formalist scholar who analyzed the basic plot components of Russian folk tales to identify their simplest irreducible narrative elements.
