Maurika Smutherman Priest I Am Poem 9/3/13 Who am I?

I am the daughter of a generation of pioneering, nurturing Black Women Women who calmed storms with the flick of a hand I am a deep thinker and writer of ideas and social issues My thoughts escape my pen and paper, creating a world of their own I am a believer that wonderful changes will happen in the world Despite the constant chaos that plagues us I am the woman who will lead these changes Constructive and inspiring changes I am a poster child for the Natural Black Hair Movement My curls and coils represent my heritage I am the daughter of a generation of pioneering, strong Black Women Women who carried the world on their backs I am unafraid to challenge your ideas with words of wisdom Question me and I will question you right back I am the listener to the heartbeat of all the many children of the world Faint, gentle heartbeats that promise a future for mankind I am the one who will be the voice speaking for all the children Children who have been left helpless, voiceless I am a lover of classic fashion, colors and textures Silk, suede and cotton warm my soul I am the daughter of a generation of pioneering, nurturing, strong Black Women
