CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION 1.

1 Background of the study

Writing is one of the important ways of expressing your thoughts, and communicating ideas and views to others. Some have the innate ability to put their thoughts into words. Writing is more beneficial, specifically for those who are emotional, and do not express verbally. This tool allows them to express their ideas, thoughts or their existing mental condition, which otherwise, may not be possible. People express themselves by writing novels, short stories, biographies, and even personal diaries, etc. Fortunetely , the researchers said that only a few of indonesia students like writing. The causes are still bias and need more research. As we know, Writing always relates with the grammar system. in fact, there are a lot of students hate grammar much eventhough the writing itself needs they good at grammar. When students need to make interesting and good writing they should know how to identify independent and dependent clause which is it part of grammar. To identifying independent and dependent clause is really important matter because they will know when to use that in writing. It can be very useful to the different between those clauses. Based on explanation above the writer will conduct research with the title The student ability in identifying independent and dependent clause at Third grade of smp ,,.. in academic year 2013/2014

Formulation of the problems Based on explanation the write formulates the problem as how students ability in identifying independent and dependent clause at third grade of smp in academic year 2013/2014 ?

Limition of the problem Writer only analyze the ability of student in identifying independent and dependent clause in narrative writing
