Who killed the samurai in the story In a Grove? Justify your answer.

In my own opinion, it was the samurai; the samurai killed himself.

Why? Be ause for me, in Japan, even !oin! all the way to an ient times, honor is somethin! like a person"s pri#ed possession. If one"s honor has $een tarnished, he will $e treated with shame $y others as well as himself. %o, it somewhat makes sense that in the story, the samurai would kill himself out of shame $ased from the testimonies of the people who said that the ro$$er defeated the samurai when they rossed swords. &ther events that may have lead him to shame is seein! his own wife !ettin! violated $y the ro$$er while he sits there tied down to a root of a edar 'ust wat hin!, una$le to do anythin!.

%o $ased from these histori al fa ts and o$servations, I ould say that the samurai himself was the killer.
