Prediction of the air blast negative effect on surface structures

ABSTRACT:
Excavation with explosive materials is one of the most common ways of underground excavation that
is used extensively in tunnel and underground excavation. Although using explosive materials results in
increasing excavation yield, it has some undesirable consequences like dissonant voices, air and ground
vibration, fly rock, etc. Air blast is an undesirable aide effect of the use of explosives to fragment rocks
for mining, quarrying, and excavation. Prediction of this phenomena can gives important insight to
mining engineers. Prediction method for a shock wave inside of tunnels and galleries were developed at
the same time. The aim of this method was to estimate the damage over people, equipment or installation
located inside the tunnel and galleries. In this paper beside the introduction of air blast and its negative
effects, the model to estimation of the air pressure level both inside the tunnel and outside have been
studied. In this model, the more number of effective parameters have been considered rather than others,
with considering the position of surface structure and determine the amount of sufficient charge per
advance, preparing the possibility of safety blasting.
Keywords: blasting, underground excavations, air blast negative effects, air blast waves.
