He was educated by the Jesuits of Cuzco and made a fortune in business transportation, mining and farmland. He was a descendant of Tupac Amaru I
His rebellion broke out by public discontent against mandatory taxes and benefits imposed by the Spanish work affecting traders and economic life in the southern Andes.
Tupac Amaru was defeated at Checacupes battle (1781). He was given to the spanish by some of his people.
