Thanh-Tran Nguyen Miriam Elmenr Honors 100 AF 27 October 2013 Quest for Comp-Sci For this assignment, I partnered

up with Alison Chiu. In our discussion, we shared our interests in video gaming and computer science. Shes excited for the release of Final Fantasy XIV after playing its predecessor, Final Fantasy XIII (and I assume shes played the series other prequels, too!) Alison is fascinated with the innovation that goes into video gaming, such as the transition from cell-shading to CGI in graphics, the mechanical complexities of battle systems, as well as the sheer computational power that tests each consoles limits. From our conversation, its no wonder that playing video games as a child fosters curiosity in programming! However, whereas I want to pursue a career in the video gaming industry, Alison keeps her options open while studying computer science. Shes definitely ready for a career in the field; quote Alison, I studied CSS and HTML instead of preparing for my finals. Although I caution her to at least take care of herself in non-computational activities, I can see why she prioritizes the digital world over exhaustive exams. Alison knows where shes going, and what it takes to get her there. Thats why I suggest for her to attend an information session for CS Study Abroad in Budapest. It starts at 3:30pm Tuesday, October 29th, in CSE 691. As she snacks on pizza and refreshments, shell learn about the summer AIT Budapest program and its courses on Computer Vision for Digital Post Production, Mobile Software Development, Quantum Probability and Quantum Logic, and

Nguyen 2 others. This program is open to all students that are interested in computation, which is perfect for CS-student Alison. While in Hungary, Alison could take one of the courses offered by AIT, or take up an internship with LogMeIn, Prezi, or other major Hungarian software companies. She wouldnt have to worry about the classes, as they are taught in English by first-rate faculty in class sizes of 5-15. This program is a dream come true for students looking for exceptional involvement in computer science. If Allison wishes to find out more about this program before going to the meeting, she can access the UW Honors post description here (the 8th entry), as well as the AIT program page here. Good luck to her!
