Respond, analyze, and evaluate

I find this scene rather interesting because Elie already knows wh the consequences are when you get transported from Moise yet she till prays to God to help her and her family. Elie is also dealing with the problem of why is God not helping her people and her family, and why do they have to be treated so cruelly and prejudiced. So it seems to hint in the quote that shes losing her faith in God. Overall this demonstrates that her conflict outside; being imprisoned affect her internally and triggers a conflict with her.

Conflict( External) The same day, the Hungarian police burst into every Jewish home in town: a Jew was henceforth forbidden to own gold, jewelry, or any valuables.(p10)

P10

This scene demonstrates the conflict Elie has to deal with externally. The police dont allow Jewish people to be rich or own any valuables possibly to prevent them from manipulating the guards. The police violate their basic human rights and privileges to own items and rudely rush into their home without a warrant any sort. This demonstrates how Germany is slowly destroying th Jewish society as a whole and how other lesser and groups that have envied the Jewish aid the Germans out of greed and reveng It shows how envy and greed can drive people to do crazy things and how this is just a cornerstone of what is later to come.

Imagery His waiflike shyness made people smile. As for me, I like his wide, dreamy eyes, gazing of into the distance. He spoke little. He sang, or rather he chanted,(p3)

This description helps me imagine what Moise the Beadle would have acted like, and been like through its description on whats h attitude like and how he acted. I could just imagine Moise being a shy, friendly, comical guy who could sing very well. Hes like a clown. That also illustrates how later in the story when Moise trie to warn everyone no one listens to him out off disbelief or just choose to ignore him. Just like the way some people choose not t looks at clowns at a mall. Also Moise is like a toy just like a clown starts of being fun but is later left aside and forgotten about.

Symbol The news is terrible, he said at last. And then one word Transports.(p13)

P13

The word transports in the story symbolizes both their lose of hope, by transporting them off to a new land and separating them from the people they had known, they environment they love, an move them to a hostile and arduous place. It also symbolizes how they lost their dignity of being human beings and be transported away like animals. This shows the degree of hatred the Germans have for Jews to keep them like livestock.
