In *ecember 7889$ the WA3*A Act was amended$ which allowed the creation of 3akistan %lectric 3ower 'ompany +3%3'0,$ and unbundling of WA3*As 3ower Wing intoC %ight +9, distribution companies +formed from e(isting area boards,! three +6, generating companies +comprising 77 of WA3*As generating plants,! and #ational "ransmission and *ispatch 'ompany +#"*',. <arious 1egions of WA3*A were performing the local areas electricity distribution service. "hen the Area %lectricity -oard +A%-, Lahore$ on the eight A%-s in 3akistan$ was established under the scheme of Area %lectricity -oards in 7894$ in order to provide more autonomy and representation to provincial government$ elected representatives$ industrialists$ agriculturalists and other interest groups in functions of the A%-s. Brie( 1istory: "he restructuring programme of WA3*AEs 3ower Wing is based on the new strategic policies of the =03 and endorsed and supported by the donor institutions. "he aim of this transition is to install corporate and business culture throughC adopting of good business practices$ enhancing productivity and efficiency$ including customer orientation and service culture$ improving ;uality of services setting performance targets$ reducing costs$ theft and wastage.
