On the first day of class we were asked to write about what we thought a text, a writer and literacy all

were. My response was text are words combined together to form a thought or idea. In order to be a text it must make sense and depict an idea or opinion. A writer is anyone who puts their ideas into writing. To become a writer one must be able to put their ideas into writing fluently and in a way that can be comprehended. Literacy is a piece of writing that tells a story, depicts an idea, or states facts, and to be literate means you are capable of reading writing. After the discussion we had in class later that day I realized how off my initial thoughts were. I realized texts can be anything due to fact everything displays meaning. This completely changed my view of who is a writer and what it means to be literate. A writer can be anyone who creates something that displays meaning and to be literate in my mind means you are capable of comprehending meaning in everyday objects such as a table or building.
