Rebecca Essay

Pg 78
She approached, a thin figure clutching timidly at a pair of black satin

gloves. She was very young and _ and she was nervous, I could tell. I was

taken aback that Maxim had married someone so different to Rebecca,

whose charm and beauty couldn’t be compared to this wretched girl. Her

eyes darted around the room, filled with fear and she fiddled with her

gloves, squirming with awkwardness. I held out my hand feeling nothing

for ______. Who was she, but an intruder, who was nothing compared to

Rebecca. From the moment I laid eyes on her I could tell she would never

compare to Rebecca. Still, I stepped forward and held out my hand.

“Welcome to Manderley, Madam. We hope you will enjoy your time here,

and if you request anything the servants or 1 will assist you.”

She took my hand, her warm skin like fire against my own. In her haste

her gloves slipped from her hands, and her face blushed crimson. I bent

down and retrieved them for her and at that moment I knew, she was

_______. I smirked, knowing that their marriage would never last.

Rebecca was still here and here presence would never leave Manderley, I

would make sure of that.

“Thankyou, Mrs. Danvers,” Maxim said, before wrapping an arm tightly

around her and dragging her off to the tearoom.

I turned to the servants; their eyes following the _____ with a look of a

_______ and ______. “You may get back to work now,” I said sternly,

and abruptly they scattered, like mice frantically searching for food,

___ had been in the tearoom for quite some time so I turned to Frith.

“Frith, go and ask if Mrs. De Winter would like to see her room

now.“ __________.
A few moments later, she emerged, her hands clasping at her dress, her

eyes darting left and right. She looked so small in the vast empty

_______, and as she neared she summoned a smile. I remained

emotionless, for this intruder deserved no compassion from anyone least

of all me.

“I hope I haven’t kept you waiting,” she stammered, that silly smile still

on her face.

“It’s for you to make your own time, Madam. I‘m here to carry out your

orders.” I swiftly turned around, and she followed, her footsteps echoing

loudly through the ____ corridor. We reached the east wing, and I swung

open the door allowing her to pass through.
