Dear Mr. Langen:

Hello, I am Cassie Roman a freshman here at UNCC. First, I would like to say congratulations on this season so far and going into conference! You have done a tremendous job taking over Head Coach this season. As a student at UNCC, my English professor has assigned an Ethnography project to our class. We are required to choose a discourse community and analyze how it reacts within itself. I have decided to base my project around the UNCC mens soccer team. We are required to analyze our discourse community a total of two times within our project. I plan to attend the soccer game this coming Wednesday to observe how your team reacts towards their teammates, opponents and their interaction with the crowd. This will help me have an idea of how your team interacts within a professional setting. Beyond this, it is essential to view the community at a personal level so we can see how the relationships are established; I would love to attend a mens soccer practice. I understand if hesitation emerges upon this request. However, I feel this is an excellent way to display a sense of community from your team. Ethnographies have you look from a native perspective to see how a specific community interacts with each other on a day-to-day basis. Attending a practice will, hopefully, allow me to see the leadership qualities that lie within the players as well as a sense of partnership. With any luck, I will see each player striving to be their best, encouraging each other to grow, and displaying positive relationships with each other. I want to see how your team works from the inside out and I feel this is the ideal way to do this.
